چکیده

It is traditional to look to any engineering activity from both the product point of view and the process point of view. The product is the desired result, the process is the route followed to reach the result. Methods were classically focused on the product aspect of systems development and have paid less attention to the description of formally defined ways-of-working. Clearly, there is an important demand on methods and tools where process guidance is offered to provide advice on which activities are appropriate to which situations and how to perform them [Rolland95], [Rolland96], [Downson94], [Wynekoop93]. We propose a way-of-working which intents to provide such a guidance. Our approach is composed of three complementary elements : (1) a set of models used for describing the system to be constructed and the organisation in which it will operate, (2) a way-of-working supporting the usage of concepts, (3) a set of tools supporting the way-of-working.

Explaining of the roll of the guiding principles in design problem understanding by vernacular architecture (Case study: Seraj-Mahaleh village)

In the field of architecture, one of the branches of knowledge is design studies that studies on the design process. Researchers in this field have used various concepts to explain the designer's mental processes, one of them is the guiding principles. The guiding principles refer to the principles that the designer believes in and uses them to framerate and understand the priorities of the des...

Designing for Field Biologists: A Case Study in Participative Design

This paper describes the design of a real world data acquisition system used by ecologists monitoring the environmental evolution of coastal wetlands. In this paper, we describe how field studies, interviews, low fidelity prototypes and pilot studies both informed and misinformed the design of a data collection tool. To fully expose the process and lessons learned, we first describe our design ...

Participative Design Using Soft Systems Methodology

Participative design is an effective tool for designing organizational systems where conflicting and diverse goals of users and clients from different organizations must be reconciled. This paper presents a methodology for participative design based on Soft Systems Methodology (SSM). A brief overview of SSM is first presented. The design methodology is then presented within the SSM framework. T...

Participative management in health care services.

The need and demand for the highest-quality management of all health care delivery activities requires a participative management approach. The purpose with this article is to explore the process of participative management, to generate and describe a model for such management, focusing mainly on the process of participative management, and to formulate guidelines for operationalization of the ...

Linking Action Research with System Dynamics: Towards a Generic Process Design for Participative Modelling

The process of building system dynamics models ranges from linear iterative phases to the circular iterative phases. However, while all these process designs are well known and explicit to system dynamics modellers, they are not comprehensive for participative modelling involving clients/participants without prior modelling knowledge. This paper presents a detailed modelling process design of s...
